The Charlie Daniels Band will be the headliner for the free evening concert at the 5th Annual 7th Inning Stretch Festival in Uptown Shelby on Saturday, August 5.
Charlie Daniels continues a varied musical career that spans over 6 decades.With hits to his credit, “The South’s Gonna Do It”, “Long Haired Country Boy”, “In America”, “Uneasy Rider” he is most famous for his signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” which won the Grammy award for Best Country Vocal Performance in 1979 and was included on the soundtrack for the hit movie “Urban Cowboy.
Daniels has won six BMI Country Awards and he was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008, the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2009 and more recently the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016.
A proud supporter of the US military, he has performed overseas for US troops and in 2014 he co-founded The Journey Home Project, a nonprofit organization to help U.S. veterans.
The opening act for The Charlie Daniels Band will be The Southern Experience Band, a popular Country Rock band out of Kings Mountain, NC. Influenced by country, blues, jazz and funk, the band was nominated for Band of the Year at the 2016 AMG awards.Band members are Scott Sanders, Nikao Wallace, Alton Eddins and Ron Humphries.
