The NC Department of The American Legion (NCDAL), the local American Legion World Series (ALWS) Office and Dragonfly Marketing, event planner for the 7th Inning Stretch Festival, are excited to announce a new partnership. The North Carolina Department of the American Legion (NCDAL) has signed on as the title sponsor of the festival for the 2019, 2020 and 2021 events. NC Department Commander
Evan Thompson stated: “The Department of North Carolina of The American Legion is very excited to be a part of this great event and also express our thanks to the City of Shelby and all the wonderful volunteers who make this event and The American Legion World Series happen.”
The NCDAL has been a staunch supporter of ALWS and its surrounding events since the tournament first came to Shelby on a permanent basis in 2011. In 2018 the NCDAL sponsored the Cornhole Tournament at the festival. “The NC Department’s continued support and on-going commitment became the basis for all levels of sponsorship of the Festival”, says Kim Davis of Dragonfly Marketing, the festival’s event planning director. “With this ongoing support, the festival is being rebranded the North Carolina American Legion 7th Inning Stretch Festival. To recognize this partnership, the festival logo has been updated to include the NCDAL information.”
On April 14, Martina McBride was announced as the music headliner for this year’s event. “We have scored another big hit by bringing Martina McBride to the Festival,” says Eddie Holbrook, chairman of the local ALWS committee. “This artist is phenomenal, and we’re thrilled that area residents can hear her at a festival dedicated to them.”
This year’s 7th Annual 7th Inning Stretch Festival is on Saturday, Aug. 10, in Uptown Shelby.
The Festival opens at 8:00 am with a 5K run that begins at Future Energy Co. The Little Miss ALWS Pageant is scheduled for 10:00 am at the Don Gibson Theatre. From 3:00 – 10:00 pm, festival attendees can play games, purchase crafts and eat everything from barbecue to fried Oreos®.
The music begins at 6:00 pm with an opening act to be named later. McBride will take the stage at 8:00 pm as the highlight of the festival and the closing act. The festival is free and open to the public.
The festival, with title sponsor The North Carolina Department of The American Legion, is a “thank you” from the ALWS committee to the community for local support of the American Legion World Series, an annual baseball tournament held in Shelby-Cleveland County since 2011. The tournament and its related events have become the county’s largest annual tourism event.
